A blog about, among other things, imaginary ideas - What ifs? and Imagine thats. What if photographs looked nothing like what we see with our eyes? Imagine that the Berlin Wall had never come down. What if we were the punchline of an interminable joke? All contributions welcome.
Quite right. But I hope the publishers are paying you for the book, Bryan. The paperback is already available via Amazon's resellers (like thousands of other books, of course) for only two pounds. The Book Depository, which I've always found to be reliable, is offering it for under four pounds "Brand New. Stocked in the UK, originally sourced direct from the Publisher." Prices like these are great news for us buyers but there can't be much left over for the author. Given that the book has a notional cover price of 7.99, the whole publishing thing is beginning to sound like a bit of a racket. I hope authors realize that a paperback royalty of, say, 7.5 per cent is quite likely to mean 7.5 per cent of two pounds rather than 7.99. About enough to buy yourself one meal a year, probably. Are your publishers large and sleek or equally famished themselves?
ReplyDeleteI might join the groovy club and Radiohead, Prince and the like and offer my books for what people are prepared to pay. When did you become Dr Strangelove?
ReplyDeleteRest assured, Bryan. I buy your books from my local Borders where I pay top whack for them.
ReplyDeleteRest assured, the 3 books of yours i own came from charity shops or were bought for pennies on-line. However, when i'm rich i'll send you an uncontrollably savage dobermann puppy to accompany you on your celebrity interviews.
