No Predictions

You may remember my startlingly accurate predictions for 2007 - 1, 2, 3, 4, 5. I was a bit premature on the Gordon Brown eating his own head business, but now, surely, the day is near. I was so uncannily on the ball that I have decided not to issue any forecasts this year as I feel that knowing exactly what was going to happen would suck all the fun out of 2008.  All I will say is it's a shocker and all is not what it seems in Guildford.

  1. Can you at least tell us what the year has in store for sagittarians!

  2. Your birthday will fall between November 23rd and December 21st. Other than that, my lips are sealed. Oh and happy birthday

  3. Ah, I'd forgotten I had assumed the nom de plume, Shifty Loner, back then. An anagram of my name I thought it deliciously apt until I remembered I have a wife and kids, oodles of friends and am not half as shifty as I used to be.

  5. thanks, but you've made the mistake of assuming I'm a sagittarian. I'm aries, and aries don't believe in astrology.

  6. This is my favourite Appleyard prediction, from July 25th this year:

"I shall miss the Conservative Party. I suppose it all started to go wrong when some bright spark, fresh from the Oxford Union, decided what the Tories needed was their own Tony Blair, just as the nation had decided that it was the last thing we needed. In the last few weeks, with Cameron's comically ill-judged trip to Rwanda, the Boris fiasco and Brown's cunning reengineering of his political vices - notably dourness - as virtues, it has become clear that the Tories are just too strategically inept to survive."

There's been something of an Appleyard volte-face on that one, once it became clear that the wind had changed direction...

For my own part, I should also admit that I predicted the great Svenster would be a disaster at Man. City, and perhaps I was slightly wrong on that score.
