The Higgs Omen

Oh the Higgs Boson could be found by the Fermi Satellite and not the LHC. This seems to be yet another omen of the end of Europe.

  1. It seems so but not if having dinner by me! Cheer up.

  2. This is my favourite bit:

"If there is a strong connection between the physics of dark matter and the physics of mass generation, those dark matter particles probably like to interact with the Higgs boson."

In other words, if there is a special interaction between dark matter particles and the Higgs boson, then there's a special interaction between dark matter particles and the Higgs boson.

Top marks though for media savvy. These people have a gamma-ray telescope capable of inferring the presence of dark matter particles, but they then grab some publicity (and presumably future funding and career opportunities), by concocting an ad-hoc connection between dark matter and the Higgs boson.

  3. If A, then if B, then if C... too many ifs spoil the space-time continuum, if you ask me.
