Sceptics May Mock, But...
...here it is, clear evidence - as if any were needed - that Norfolk is haunted by the ghost of Salvador Dali. I shall never forget our late night discussions at Cambridge about Dali's theory of the 'four-buttock continuum'. Now we know for sure, it was, indeed, a continuum.

First you introduced me to Auden's poetry and now to the Continuum of the Four Buttocks which I never knew existed. I really am most grateful.
ReplyDeletehere? where?
ReplyDeleteSo what is Dali's theory of the four buttock continuum? And how stoned do you have to be to understand it?
ReplyDeleteThis doesn't look like four buttocks -- it looks like the curled ends of Salvador's moustache!
ReplyDeleteIn Diary of a Genius, I think, Dali records how he persuaded some smart society lady to strip over and lean on a balustrade. Contemplating her buttocks - the picture is in the book - he came to the conclusion they were not twofold but fourfold. This requires intense concentration until a trance-like state is attained at which point the continuum becomes apparent. And yes, Duck,, being stoned certainly helps.
ReplyDeleteSorry I meant strip off, and here is the North Norfolk coast. Salvador walks the marshes.
