For Henry Blogg
As that great Norfolk man B. Appleyard will surely know, it was on this day in 1917 that the Cromer lifeboat, under coxswain Henry Blogg, made one of the most heroic multiple rescues ever attempted. Blogg was indeed, as his memorial states, 'One of the bravest men who ever lived'.

1917?
ReplyDeleteJawohl. The flower of Norfolk's youth were away at the war. You know, the one you started...
ReplyDeleteLittle did Blogg know he was the harbinger of an even bigger blog yet to come.
ReplyDeleteIndeed Susan - a man born before his time...
ReplyDeleteHenry Blogg is without doubt my greatest hero. You only habe to read a couple of pages of Jolly's book to realise this guy had balls the size of oranges. All he lived for was to pull people out of the water, save lives and make shipping safer - whilst at the same time not taking any credit for his heroic efforts and at a period in history when modern aids to lifesaving we not even thought of.
