Nonsense and Chickens
With nonsense like this and this dominating the news and draining our pockets, the popularity of suicide cults doesn't seem so surprising really. Still, it was good to hear Mr Humphrys roughing up the ludicrous Alan Johnson this morning on Today. The utter uselessness of this kind of 'information' campaign was neatly demonstrated recently by the reported rise in sales of battery chickens (up 7 percent in Tescos) as a response to the anti-battery onslaught of Messrs Oliver and Fearnley-Whittingstall. Their campaiging efforts turned out to be one big advert for chicken-eating. Turkey Twizzler anyone?

I disagree. Strongly.
ReplyDeleteTwo for a fiver! well, you can't complain.
ReplyDeleteI cant understand how you have muddled up the chickens thing with the suicide cults... I am sure they are not really linked.. At least I dont think so..
ReplyDeleteWell I'm sure they're not, but bad food does have a depressing effect doesn't it? Certainly does on me - as does lack of exercise (i.e. walking, not spraying sweat around in a gym) - and heaven knows there are depressed people everywhere...
ReplyDeleteAs Ian says, you can hardly go wrong with two for a fiver. Just look for the greener-coloured ones, the ones riddled with salmonella, and you'll have the satisfaction of topping yourself knowing you've killed two birds with one stone.
ReplyDeleteOne wonders, though. If Jamie Oliver made a programme on, say, the undesirability of quaffing weedkiller, does this mean that Tesco's sales of weedkiller would promptly soar?
Nige, last night there was some TV ghastliness where a fat lady swapped her diet with a thin girl while the presenter went off for colonic irrigation. I literally left the cabin to throw up.
ReplyDeleteAlrite mukkaz? Yoo woodnt bee soa obees if yoo ait roadkill badgers innit, perfekkly organic innit
ReplyDeleteBattery-operated chickens? Squawk!
ReplyDeleteI think the reality is that chicken sales across the board went up as a result of this media campaign. All one need do to guarantee sales in these days of the dumbed-down and walking zombies is to have a word bounced around the media for a few days and the brainwashed masses will flood to the shops in hoards to express an inexplicable compulsion to buy buy buy.
ReplyDeleteCaptain, I know the programme to which you refer, but managed to avoid watching it - just as well, by the sound of things. The one about the Bodmin Moor roadkill eater and other men of the Moor - last night - was a beauty.

ReplyDeleteI haven't turned on the television in ages because I spend too much time on the net. Every once in a while, I think this is a mistake. Thanks for reminding me why it is not. That reminds me that my copy of The Joy of Drinking arrived today. I think I'll indulge.
I dont understand really this treatment I found more info about Colon Hydrotherapy (Irrigation)at bodypeace.
