Over There

A funny, disenchanted piece on Obama here. For myself, I've come to the conclusion that the Dems have self-destructed yet again, and that whichever candidate emerges from this mess, they're not going to beat McCain. I never thought Hill could win against him, and now Barack looks like a fatally contaminated brand. Sad.

  1. Hi Nige,
Glad to see you're back. In the meantime, note your previous observation regarding "those young thrusters" being "so many bladders of wind with no talent for anything except self-promotion. In the 'real world', they'll be doing fine, but in the far more real world ... they collapse into the pathetic wannabes they really are." It seems perfectly in tune with what Steyn says.

  3. Bit of a strange thing to say when both dems are ahead of mccain in the polls, obama even increasing his lead to 13%

  4. According to a Suffolk University poll released today, Obama's lead in Oregon's Democratic Party primary has dropped to 4%. This comes on the heels of another poll showing him with a 5-point lead. Up until the last couple of weeks, Obama's lead in Oregon had consistenly been well into double-digits. So, his lead appears to have halved itself after near universal recognition that he would be the nominee. Not necessarily a sign of a healthy campaign, although 75,000 showing up to hear him speak in Portland yesterday definitely was.

It will be interesting to see just what the results are in Oregon, as Oregonians do not vote on a single day: every registered voter is mailed their ballot 30 days before the due date and may return it by mail, or hand it in at drop-off centers, at any time prior to election day.

  5. I have to laugh when I read anyone making a big deal about Rev. Wright. First, the only people that care think Obama is Muslim anyway. As far as the GOP brand, I would like to point out that the Democrats just won a congressional seat in a Mississippi district (MS-01) that gave Bush 65% of the vote in 2004. The GOP is at an historic low in the number of Reps in Congress and they are likely to get crushed in November.

I have no idea why you think the Dems have self-destructed (other than wishful thinking) but McCain will be destroyed at the first debate with Obama. He will look like Nixon debating Kennedy, only worse, because he won't just look old, he will sound old and confused as well.

  6. Well I hope you're right Tom P - I've been pretty positive about Obama thus far - and it would be good to at least have a proper contest. I just very much doubt that, when it comes to it, at Presidential level, either Dem could win.
