It's a great piece. Not fully alive, eh? Strong words! She does sound amazing, and I love the way she talks about science. The dome of the murdered god. I'll have a look. I want to see her language.
ReplyDeleteI should say I've always been aware of Marilynne Robinson, slightly on the run in a sense, as I was very young and freshly fled from America when I first discovered Housekeeping - that was the last zeitgeist I wanted to get into, so busy was I getting myself around in London, wearing black, etc... it seems the time has come. Thanks for the excellent pointer!

ReplyDeleteShe is a beautiful prose stylist, but I fear "Home" is a dud of a novel. However, as the novel (or, more specifically the Rev. Boughton) points out, you have to forgive in order to understand, and I forgive this prodigal failure of a novel because she also wrote "Housekeeping," which is absolutely brilliant.
