Parrot cured of cough

Saw a story today about a parrot cured of a cough by showering with his owner - under the firm impression he was back in the steamy rainforest, the parrot regained his squawk (and other irritating habits, no doubt). This, I now realise, was no story, as showering with parrots is commonplace - there are even (cop this) special perches available. The world is always stranger than we think it is.

  1. The one thing that momentarily softens my nihilistic attitude to life is showering with my parrot.

  2. Where?! In the shower with Mutton Chop Man? I wasn't there for one

  3. Speak for yourself, Bryan. Although I have heard of people bathing with beavers, I must say that the idea of sharing the shower with a bird appeals on numerous levels.

  4. Don't try & be clever, Nige. Only my parrot knows the experience of a shared shower with Mutton-Chap Man. Well there was that one time with Edwina Currie; an experience not to be repeated.

  5. Hugo - is that you? What's this with bathing with beavers? Do you have a link to that? A Google search could be most illuminating...

  6. Hugo, Nige, I have an uncanny feeling that something is going on between you two.

  7. Bryan, would that it were, would that it were. I think you may be getting me confused with someone else. Our mutual friend J Cheever Loophole might have something to say on the subject. Hugo H.

  8. Historically, we Canadians have always enjoyed relaxing soaks in the tub with our beavers. But today, thanks to the miracles of globalization and free trade, we have a lot more choice and can shower with parrots and all kinds of other exotic species from remote parts at very low cost. It makes life diverse and far more interesting, but unfortunately a nativist reaction is setting in and we are hearing more and more calls in Parliament for strict quotas on parrots.

  9. That'll never work, Peter - there's no stopping parrots. Consider the UK success of the ring necked parakeet, now a common sight all over London and the Southeast, flying around purposefully at high speed - probably looking for somewhere to get a decent shower.

  10. Ah well, they'll always be welcome to drop in on me – my shower can easily accommodate a couple of those little fellas, along with yours truly. I don't have a perch, as such – do pet shops sell them along with the goldfish, or should I get a fishing rod?

  11. Save yourself the expense, Hugo old chap - just get a children's bow and arrow, fire one at the wall of your shower and, hey presto, Polly's got a perch!
