From Prozzze to LOL

Having mocked at length (see, for example, this) the previous occupant of Radio 4's Point Of View slot, I should alert anyone who hasn't noticed to the fact that the great Clive James is now back, and on brilliant form. This, which I caught this morning, had me laughing out loud, almost throughout - no mean feat so early in the day and after a night cruelly truncated by the move to BST.

  1. Still alive? After reading this I wasn't too sure.

They can't all be winners, I suppose.

  2. he's definitely better read than heard. the martial arts art film piece was the funniest, great turns of phrase, a face like body-builder's bicep looking for its original arm, and, both eyeballs sharing a single socket. LOL. I love the apparent ramble and I love the way those commenting at the end didn't really get it. I was a big fan of his autobiographies but lost touch with his work somewhere along the way.

  3. I've got a feeling the stuff about his youthful cycling exploits is more or less lifted from Unreliable Memoirs - not that it matters, it was worth the lift.

  4. Clive`s one liners must be the best in the business

After the Speer interview and the acceptable face of nazism`s "Juden, vat Juden ?...

"Speer is a man who knows how many beans make five, unfortunately he doesn`t know how many make two."
