The Interview Plant

Do television news cameraman take a plant with them wherever they go? I ask because everybody I see interviewed has a plant behind them. And here's the thing - it looks like the same plant.

  1. Perhaps, 'tis to make sure something has life in the shot.

  2. It's not the same plant. They lost the original to snipers in Basrah last May.

  3. They must be a bunch of tender perennials, but I'm not sure what the plant is.

  4. Why are you going on about plants when you could be market testing public responses to the new book with the trickle of blood on the cover? Do people in your fancy-schmancy cafes think it is a new Jamie Lee Burke thriller? Do those on the Tube edge away when they see the T word? Do they think you've cut yourself shaving? Mind those tables: they might be bugged too.

  5. Oh yeah, just got that, Cap'n. Looks bloody and scary - mainly because I'm not in the index, but that's probably a good thing.

  6. Heehee. I read "plant" and thought "planted camera/audio device," a la the one that recently captured Joran van der Sloot confessing to disposing of a certain Alabama girl's body.

Here's my question about him: Why would someone confess to doing something heinous if they did NOT do it? He says he told the guy what the fellow wanted to hear, but why? Is he guilty or just unbelievably stupid?
