Giant Birds 3: The Thunderbird

Nige and I - what a team! - are, in addition to our other proclivities, cutting edge scientists. In two momentous posts, we identified the phenomenon of giantism in the bird population. News from San Antonio provides further evidence of this disturbing phenomenon. Unidentified birds with wingspans of up to 20 feet have been buzzing the local population. They are thought to be the Thunderbirds of native American mythology. In fact, I saw one of these creatures in the Scottish Highlands. Above is the picture I took. Sadly, the creature turns out to have some sort of Klingon cloaking device.

  1. A Klingon cloaking device ?? What you failed to report, Bryan, was that you totally ignored that bloke who shouted " It's behind you! "

  2. it never ceases to amaze. faced with the alternative rational and credible explanation, they still want to go with the bogeyman theory. and that, children, is how we got religion...

  3. But, as johntyh indicates, the bogeyman might be behind you.

  5. Ah yes, Romulan originally as I recall. But, somehow, the Klingons got it, did they not?

  6. Having once worked as a wrangler on a ranch near San Antonio I think I can safely say that sightings in the vicinity of one of my favourite US cities has something to do with Tequila.

  7. Ian for God's(?) sake, you'll be telling us that Robert Johnson really did meet the devil at the crossroads next.

  8. At the risk of lowering the whole tone of this debate, and in fear of debasing the intellectual imperative of this Blog, and at the risk of alienating all of those keen to discuss the subject of giantism in a cosmic context, and on the day of a great director's death (now he could frame a picture), I must share this insight with you. When that bloke shouted to Bryan "It's behind you!", Bryan continued to look forward because ten others had then shouted "Oh no it isn't!" That Klingon cloaking device is quite remarkable!

  9. They were sparrows. It's a well-known scientific fact that sparrows can assume the most extraordinary shapes and sizes anywhere that alcoholic refreshment is available. Research by Lady Penelope Creighton-Ward has demonstrated that when particularly strong alcohol is involved, such as tequila, whiskey, scrumpy and the like, sparrows can easily appear to be propelled by rockets with their characteristic whooshing sound, hence the association with Thunderbirds.
