The Hat Caption

The comments are barely dribbling in this morning. A caption contest is the only solution. I have in mind for this one something along the lines of 'Summer's End' or 'Last Days of the Raj'. The hat, incidentally, was just given to me by a very distinguished figure indeed. It represents my complete summer solution to the man hat problem.

  1. You accusing me of dribbling, Mr. A? I'm not that old yet.

  2. Well quite, I intended no slur. The words 'beautiful picture, Bryan' seem to have been lost from your comment at some point.

  3. What's this, Bryan? "Once an emblem of dignity and social status, now hats advertise only affectation or an oppressive sportiness." As a hat-wearer myself, I ask: What's wrong with a bit of affectation?

  6. Is the hat made from woven rattan or snakeskin and is the band paisley patterned. The lilies look very sultry. I don't think hats are quite you, but, just maybe a pork pie number would make you look like 'popeye Doyle'.

  7. 'Yes that's the one I was wearing when I found Beagle 2... bit showy but we thought Panamas appropriate.'

  8. ON THIS DAY. If in black and white, could have been taken in Poona, sixty years ago.

  13. Okay, okay, we know you're dying for us to ask: WHO was the distinguished figure who gave you this hat? The guy on the beach with the white legs? He was wearing such a one, I believe.

  14. mention of the guy on the beach with white legs does make me think of that film 'Dirk Dies Dramatically' or whatever it was called. Now I come to think of it I think those are lilies in the picture, there is a certain 'natura morte' quality to the composition..
