Keira Knightley

Being something of a world authority on pretty young actresses - see my ground-breaking interview with Anna Friel and my Clive-James approved encounter with Monica Bellucci - I feel I should have something to say about Keira Knightley. But, somehow, nothing comes to mind. Oh, hang on...No, still nothing.

  1. Oh wait - she does that Diana look - sort of peering up from under the eyebrows.

  2. She needs to lose a bit of weight around the eyebrows.

  3. You're right, Neil, she has eyebrows like mine.

  4. She's beautiful. But somehow suffers from a protruding jaw when interviewed. Poor love.

  5. I just don't believe that the man who explained the hitherto unfathomable 'two-in-oneness' of Ant and Dec, could be stumped by the gorgeous Keira. She hasn't refused an interview has she, Bryan?

  6. Don't diss those eyebrows - it's the ever fashionable Groucho look.

  7. No, johntyh, but she would. I am a no go area for the sort of stars who require tame journalists and copy approval.

  8. I'm not one to talk either. My wife calls me mono-brow.

  9. watch Domino (2005) – or just take my word for it if your value your time and sanity - for demonstration of how chronic Knightley’s acting can be when outside of her period piece comfort zone.

  10. Keira's for boys, I'm afraid. What little there is of her. For men it can only be Monica.

    Ahhh, Monica. Monica...............

  11. i've a friend who writes screenplays & tends to explain each female lead thus: "this is the part Monica Bellucci will play". When i told him Appleyard had interviewed her, he expostulated, "he got close enough to launch a sex attack and did nothing? What's wrong with him?"

  12. Yes, yes, yes and yes, Bryan Appleyard. I did a similar thing and she came out a giant blank.

  13. I love prominent eyebrows (not surprisingly, I have 'em myself) and I like K.K. Don't know why she is so frequently dissed in the media. What has she done to annoy folks besides not eating enough?

Can't wait to see "Atonement," either. My favorite of Ian McEwan's novels and the cast for it looks fine. (Besides, any film on a McEwan book will have to be better than that unendurable "Enduring Love." Even Bill Nighy couldn't save it.)

  14. So Anna Friel never made it after all. How poignant.

  15. Hey, she got cute David Thewlis and she had a baby -- she's doing alright.

Remember that movie with David Thewlis and Thandie Newton? I kept wondering what it would be like if they got married and she became "Thandie Thewlis." Would everybody meeting her for the first time figure she had a lisp.
