Health Update

I am happy to report that last night I had a drink (well, three or four). This is only notable because, from Sunday evening to Thursday evening, not a drop had passed my lips. I was getting worried that I might even have lost the taste. What, without drink, would life hold? It didn't bear thinking about...
The last time I went so long without a drink was about a quarter of a century ago, when I was broke, with young children, and thought a sensible economy would be to give up booze. I soon learnt my lesson. After about a week, I started getting palpitations, which were bad enough to send me to the doctor, who in turn sent me to have an ECG, which found nothing physically wrong. Putting two and two together, I promptly resumed drinking and the palpitations went. I have never looked back, and commend my case history to anyone in two minds about drinking. Cheers!

  1. Nige, amen to that, an absolutely cast iron guarantee of a full return to health is the restoration of alcoholism, I personally have for years spurned the advice of the medical profession, the bunch of numpties that they are, and used the above as the only true indicator.

PS, momentous news, the Geordies are now in space with an observatory, Times online today, watch out for star theft
    and black hole raiding

  2. Glad to hear getting back to normal, Nige. Dearly wish I could follow your regimen but my liver is in enough trouble as it it (not alcohol-related).

  5. I used to be very keen, Elberry, but now I prefer paler beers, so tend to go for continental lagers - though in my local I often drink the Young's - it wld be churlish not to. The only major drink I don't like is rum, and gin just gets me weird.

  6. I've not had a drink in four months due to health reasons. I feel very healthy yet completely flat and bored. I'd probably take up smack if it was legal, i'm that stupid.

  7. This should cheer you up, Nige. And remember, it is your indigenous cultural right to partake of the totemic beverages of your tribe. Nay, it is your duty! Remember your ancestors!

  9. Glad you're better, Nige! A lovely light beer is Sam Adams' cherry wheat lager. I adore it, and being a wimpy drinker, especially like it with ginger ale added as a shandy.
