Coulrophobia Again

At last! A website that takes clown phobia seriously. Very, very seriously. It's worth exploring this one in depth, as it strays further and further from reality. Have you had to give up working because of this disabling phobia? Hard to imagine the circumstances really, isn't it, unless you ran away to join the circus. Has it cost you a relationship? Is it all over with you and Biffo? etc, etc....

  1. Jimmy Jewell (not the one who played Eli Pledge alongside Hylda Baker's Nellie but t'other one) eventually tired of touring with Ronnie Lane's loss-making Travelling Show and eventually cut and ran leaving behind a resignation letter which said, ''bye-bye cruel circus, I'm running away to join the world''. I've always liked that showbiz story.

  3. The site's complete list of phobias includes some crackers - morbid fear of chickens, teenagers, good news, defecation, god and the great mole rat among them. Coulrophobia is clearly one of the milder afflictions. At least it doesn't require massive doses of laxative.

However, they have missed out anatidaephobia or a morbid fear of ducks. So Australians are left out in the cold. Bryan quoted an Australian on here not long ago: apparently Australians have a morbid fear of ducks, which they believe are coming to steal the grass from their lawns, to the point of being compelled to put out plastic snakes to keep the ducks away. Very distressing. For any Australian, a walk around St James's Park must be absolutely terrifying.

  4. What about Appleyardphobia? The fear of missing one of the many daily blog posts. Or alternatively a fear of not writing multiple daily posts?

  6. Or is it phobiaphobia, perhaps? Does that exist? I hope not.
