Dave
News from the crazy world of branding. Even in a world where we no longer expect the names of things to have any descriptive function whatsoever, this one is a bit of a shocker. Hard to imagine it slipping easily into the national discourse. 'What's on Dave tonight?' 'See Dave last night?'... But who knows? Maybe the BBC, inspired by this bold initiative, will rename BBC1 Keith. ITV might follow suit, renaming itself Wayne. Channel 4.? Hmm, tricky one....

As a real life 'Dave', with neither a 'a strong' nor a 'noisy personality', I resent this use of my name. I'll be sueing them in the morning.
ReplyDeleteSPOOF WARNING!
ReplyDeleteAre you sure it isn't called Rodney?
It could become a little silly if Channel 4 calls itself 'Nige'. "At 3.00 we have Countdown on Nige, at 8.00 Dispatches on Nige and at 9.00, not to be missed , Big Brother's on Nige"
ReplyDeletethe continuity clips would be terrific though - they're pretty good now, almost as good as anything previously seen on BBC2.
ReplyDeleteThis will cause no end of interesting conversations with visiting Americans as "everyone" knows "Dave" is only one late at night on CBS.
ReplyDeleteI think we should have our own naming contest. My entries:
