Cats And Dogs

Dogs who have inherited large sums of money have been in the news a lot lately, and the king of them all is Gunther IV, whose website is really deeply sinister. Check out those pictures - like stills from German soft porn. What exactly is going on here? And, while we're on the subject, how can a human leave estate to a non-human? We no longer put animals in the dock for crimes - but we happily set them up with trust funds and Playboy-style mansions. It is very odd... Anyway, as it's September, it's time for the Thought Experiments recipe of the month. This seems to carry a rather different message about the place of our non-human chums in the scheme of things.

  2. Yikes -- I'm not telling my cats about that Australian recipe!

Nor am I surprised at really mean people -- Leona Helmsley -- leaving huge chunks of their estate to their pets. Who else would ever love that old witch? She also wanted to put some salt into the wounds of the grandkids she left out of the same will with the words, "you know why."

I doubt if anyone -- even the 'loving' dog -- is sorry that she's gone.

  3. funny to see the Appleyard Secret Garden in the previous caption competition and now to be reminded that many women, according to Nancy Friday's book, fantasized about German Shepherds in the 70s.

yes it's all absurd. dogs have such simple tastes (could include cat, scientists might have said)

  4. The grandkids (who are all filthy rich anyway) get the last laugh. Ms. Helmsley's final request to be buried with her dog will NOT be honored. It is a violation of NY State health laws to bury an animal in a cemetery for humans. Interestingly, it is not a violation of health laws to bury people (as long as they are cremated) in an animal cemetery. But then she would not be with her dear hubbie (moving him would take the near-unanimous approval of all his living relatives including the spurned grandchildren).
